Xihua Normal University is a key university of Sichuan Province. The University was founded in 1946 and originated from the national Northeast University during the Anti Japanese war. At the beginning of the Anti Japanese War, Northeastern University moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Northeast University moved back to Shenyang. In 1956, the school was divided into two parts. The part left in Nanchong was renamed Nanchong normal college. In 1958, it was upgraded to Nanchong normal college. In 1989, the name of "Sichuan Normal College" was restored. In 2003, it was renamed as Xihua Normal University.
