Peking University was founded in 1898. It was the first national comprehensive university in modern China. At that time, it was not only the highest institution in China, but also the highest educational administrative organ in China. In May 1912, Peking University was renamed Peking University. Yan Fu, a famous educator and Enlightenment thinker, became the first president of Peking University. In December 1916, Mr. Cai Yuanpei took the post of president, carrying out the philosophy of "inclusive and free thinking", and Building Peking University into China's leading university in academic and ideological fields.
In 1952, Peking University became a comprehensive university focusing on the teaching and research of Arts and Sciences. Since the reform and opening up, Peking University, while continuing to strengthen and develop basic disciplines, has focused on the development of applied disciplines, interdisciplinary and emerging disciplines that are urgently needed for national economic construction, scientific and technological progress and social development. In April 2000, Peking University and Beijing Medical University merged to establish a new Peking University. At present, Peking University has become a new comprehensive university with natural science, technological science, new engineering science, humanities, social science, management science, education science, medicine science, language science and other disciplines, giving full play to the functions of talent training, scientific research and social services.
Peking University has always maintained the tradition of "patriotism, progress, democracy and science" and the style of study of "diligence, preciseness, factualism and innovation". Over the past hundred years, Peking University has made irreplaceable contributions to the rejuvenation of the nation and the prosperity of the country. According to statistics, among the alumni of Peking University, five have won the highest national science and Technology Award (only nine in China), 12 have become the "two bombs and one star" medal, nearly 500 have been elected as academicians of the two academies, and the graduates and teachers of Peking University have made groundbreaking and pioneering contributions to the development of natural science, humanities and Social Sciences, medicine, engineering technology, national defense and cultural undertakings in China.
Peking University has 14465 ordinary undergraduate students, 10031 master students and 5088 doctoral students, including 5 departments, 41 departments, 271 research institutes (centers), 13 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering research centers, 45 provincial and ministerial key laboratories (institutes, institutes, centers), 18.5 national basic science research and teaching talent training bases, and 10 humanities and Social Sciences training bases Point research base, 8 affiliated hospitals, 101 undergraduate programs, 1 second bachelor degree program, 244 master's programs and 201 doctor's programs; There are 81 national key disciplines, 35 post doctoral research stations, 1597 senior faculty members (including 1227 doctoral supervisors), including 52 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of engineering, 13 academicians of the Third World Academy of Sciences, 95 Changjiang Scholars and 108 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The number of academicians, professors, doctoral supervisors, Changjiang Scholars, winners of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, as well as key national disciplines and key laboratories of Peking University rank first in Chinese institutions of higher learning. Peking University Library is the largest university library in Asia, with a collection of more than 6 million books.
Peking University vigorously promotes the teaching reform. In accordance with the policy of "strengthening the foundation, weakening the specialty, teaching students according to their aptitude and training in different ways", general education is carried out in the lower grades, and professional education of wide caliber is carried out in the higher grades, so as to cultivate students' ability of independent thinking and continuous learning, as well as their innovative ability and creative spirit. In terms of teaching management, the credit system of free course selection under the guidance of teaching plan and tutor has been gradually implemented, the proportion of elective courses has been increased, the general course of quality education has been built, students are encouraged to choose courses across specialties, take minor courses or double bachelor's degree. Students who have completed credits in advance can graduate in advance, and excellent graduates are recommended to study for master's and doctor's degree without examination. As an important town of science and culture, Peking University has always stood at the forefront of Chinese academic research. From the proposal of "new population theory", to the synthesis of bovine insulin, from the design of the first one million times electronic digital computer in China, to the development of the Chinese character laser typesetting system, Peking University has opened up a way to advance. Peking University, while continuing to attach importance to basic research, has vigorously carried out applied research, especially multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research. With the increase of teaching and research funds, the hardware facilities of Peking University have made great progress. The new modern science teaching buildings, the largest university library in Asian universities and the soon to be built arts teaching buildings are the new landmark buildings of Peking University. Peking University is an international and Open University, where you can look at the world and think about the world. Since 1999, Peking University has received nearly 30 heads of state and government, welcomed nearly 300 delegations of presidents of world-renowned universities, more than 20 Nobel laureates such as Robert Mondale and a group of world-renowned scholars in the field of Humanities and social sciences such as Habermas to the podium of Peking University. At present, Peking University has established inter university exchanges with nearly 240 universities in more than 50 countries and regions in the world. The campus of Peking University, also known as Yanyuan, is adjacent to Yuanmingyuan and summer palace. It was once a royal "gift garden" in Ming and Qing Dynasties. 1. In principle, the age should be between 18 and 25 years old (calculated from September 1, 2002), healthy, with a high school degree or above, in line with the relevant provisions of the nationality law of the people's Republic of China, and non Chinese citizens with valid foreign passports.
Master, doctor
① Non Chinese citizens holding foreign passports. For Chinese mainland (inland), Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan residents who apply for foreign students after immigrant, China should hold valid foreign passport or nationality certification before November 30, 2013, and have the certificate of cancellation of Chinese nationality.
② Applicants for master's degree programs must have bachelor's degree, and those who graduated from non Chinese universities must have bachelor's degree from institutions recognized by the Ministry of education of China (skipping and class switching during the undergraduate period are not acceptable). Applicants for doctoral programs must have a master's degree, and those who graduate from non Chinese institutions must have a master's degree from an institution recognized by the Ministry of education of China. Bachelor degree holders can also apply for direct study of science and engineering doctorate or master degree.
For subjects applying for teaching in Chinese, the original or copy of the transcript meeting the following standards shall be submitted.

If the application is for a subject that is taught in English completely and the applicant's native language is not English, TOEFL iBT (100 points or above) or GRE (315 points or above) report card or other certificates that can reflect his own English level shall be submitted. For specific requirements, please refer to the enrollment brochures of each English teaching project. Some departments need to submit certain Chinese level certificates, please refer to the requirements of the brochures.
